Previous Network Meetings

There have been three meetings of 'Hey Sis' members in western NSW:

Moree - May 2013

The first meeting of Aboriginal women committed to working against sexual violence in western NSW was held in Moree on 28-29 May 2013. Members heard from key-note speakers Aunty Joyce Donovan and Dixie Link-Gordon, Executive Officer of Mudgin-Gal Aboriginal Corporation, and talked about community responses to sexual assault, and what can be done to stop the cycle of violence.

Orange - October 2013

The second network meeting for this region was held in Orange on Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th October 2013. The first day of the meeting was based on constructive yarning with participants about how the community responds to sexual assault. To find out what network members had to say, download a copy of the Hey Sis Meeting Orange - Discussion Outcomes

The second day, Hey Sis network members participated in 'Responding with Compassion' and 'Vicarious Trauma Management' training, provided by Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia.

Broken Hill - March 2015

The third Hey Sis network meeting in Western NSW was held in Broken Hill at Warra Warra Legal Centre on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th March. The women who attended engaged in constructive yarning about sexual assault, and explored some of the issues for them in rural and remote regions. 

They had their questions about sexual assault services answered by staff from Broken Hill Sexual Assault Service, and their questions about the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse answered by a Royal Commission Support Service.
